PICTURE DICTIONARY

What if I tell you that there is a way to associate a word with it meaning and it is very easy to use? 

That is named: Picture dictionary. Let me tell you what it is: a picture dictionary is a dictionary where the definition of a word is displayed in the form of a drawing or photograph, that means that when looking in the dictionary it will show a drawing of the object, person, animal... with it word.  

Here's an example: 

Picture dictionaries are very useful for EFL learners because they are organized differently from regular dictionaries. This means you can search for topics, and once you choose a topic, all the related words (with their corresponding images) for that topic will appear.

What to do in class:

Now it is time for you to create your own picture dictionary! Choose a topic you like (e.g., animals, sports, flowers...) and match all the related words from the topic with their corresponding images. :) minimum 10 entrances with 10 different words.We will put together all your creations to have our own Picture Dictionary :)

ROLE PLAY AT THE SUPERMARKET

It is time to have fun while learning English. Are you ready?

We are going to do a Role Play! and, what is this? would you ask yourselves... it is a recreation of different roles, from different life situations where you could become a character and represent another person.

It is Theatre time! Get ready to learn new vocabulary and practice intonation to act out in an unimaginable scenarios :) 

Appart from that, Role Play will help you to learn to practice difficult conversations, and will helps to develop communication and oral skills.

Grab a partner because we are going to: the supermarket! Please, remember to set up the space with apples, bananas, bread, milk... the scenario is yours, so let your imagination fly.

Here's the script:

Roles:
Shopkeeper: Greets customers, asks what they need, and gives prices.
Customer: Greets the shopkeeper, asks for items, and pays.

- Shopkeeper: Hello! Welcome to the supermarket, how can I help you today?
- Customer: Good morning! I need some food.
- Shopkeeper: of course! What do you want to buy?
- Customer: I need three apples, please.
- Shopkeeper: Here are your apples. Would you like to buy anything else?
- Customer: I also need two bananas.
- Shopkeeper: Fantastic. Would you like anything else?
- Customer: Yes, I need a bottle of milk.
- Shopkeeper: We have small and big bottles. Which one do you want?
- Customer: I want a small bottle, please.
-Shopkeeper: Okay! Anything else today?
- Customer: Yes, I want some bread, please.
- Shopkeeper: Here is the bread. Is that all?
- Customer: Yes, thank you! How much is it?
- Shopkeeper: The apples are 3, the bananas are 2, the milk is 1, and the bread is 2. Your total is 8.
- Customer: I have 10. Here is the money.
- Shopkeeper: Thank you! Your change is 2.
- Customer: Thank you!
- Shopkeeper: Have a nice day!
- Customer: You too! Bye!

PODCAST

Do you know what a podcast stands for? It is a great online resource which collects digital audio files that can be downloaded or listened to via the Internet, that allow us to listen to their audios anywhere and anytime. There are different platforms to get for free, where you could find an infinite number of different podcasts based on the topic, the language, the duration...

It is time for you to enjoy my first entry in the blog. In this podcast, you will listen to people talking about clothes and some of their routines: Learn English (click on the link), thanks to the British Council. After listening to the podcast (as many times as you need), it will be time to check your understanding by answering all the questions you will find on the website. We will correct them in class.

And if you want to go further, there is another podcast I would like to share with you, reminds me to my youth: Have you ever watched Sesame Street? If so, I would like to share with every single one of you a podcast resource with one of its episodes of this fantastic cartoon from the 90s. If you haven't heard yet anything about Sesame Street, it is the perfect opportunity for you to dive into this magnificent cartoon.

Remember, you can hear it anytime, as many times as you want.
